Chinchillas

Chinchillas have a body length of about 10-14 inches with the tail being another 5-6 inches or so. They typically live about 15 years, although 18-22 years is not unusual. Chinchillas are nocturnal animals, therefore they will be most active at night. They should be kept in a quiet area during the day. They prefer a constant routine or they can become stressed. Chinchillas are very active and playful and should be kept in a roomy cage. If chinchillas are gently handled from a young age, they will become quite tame and they will bond with their owners. However, some personalities prefer not to be held or cuddled. They can be kept by themselves. They can also be kept in pairs but they need to go through an introduction period. Chinchillas require dust baths a couple of times a week. You need to purchase chinchilla dust for these dust baths, not sand! (they love their dust baths and it’s a riot to watch!)

All chinchillas born at PlayHouse Chins and Rabbitry are handled since birth. They are all very sweet and love to be held.

I have the ability to get a variety of colors as my chinchillas have colorful backgrounds.
